May 25th Update:
We’ve made great progress on the church and parsonage, so we’re in the drying out and de-humidification stage. I went over late afternoon Sunday and took a video of the church and parsonage, primarily for those members that will not be able to see it in person. It’s important for you to see what’s happening. Words don’t do justice. Clarification on one point in the video: the parsonage basement was remodeled in ‘05 or ‘06, not ‘15 or ‘16.

Brothers,
If you could pass this along to your members, this would be very much appreciated.
We have been receiving requests today from individuals who would like to contribute toward a flood relief fund to help the Holy Scripture congregation, as well as Pastor Paul and Barbe Schneider. As you have heard from the news, two dams broke in the area and massive flooding has occurred in the city of Midland, Michigan. The church and parsonage have been heavily damaged. Earlier this morning, we received this report from one of the members:
“President Moldstad, I am Pastor Schneider’s son-in-law, Andrew DeGroat. We met at our anniversary service in Midland this past year. I am writing to let you know that major flooding has happened in Midland due to heavy rain and multiple dam failures. Unfortunately, Holy Scripture has suffered greatly. As of this morning, the entire church building is filled waist deep with water. The parsonage basement is full from floor to ceiling, and water is above the baseboards on the main floor and still rising. Pastor and Barbe are safe, though still at home. I just heard that a member with a boat is coming to get them this morning, The river is still rising, and is ‘predicte’” to rise another 3.5’, cresting this evening. As our synod president and friend to Pastor and Barbe, I thought you should be made aware. I also ask for your prayers for them, the church, and the members.”
We certainly ask for your prayers. If you would also wish to donate toward a relief fund, please send your gifts to:
ELS Holy Scripture Flood Relief, 6 Browns Court, Mankato, MN 56001.
You may wish to use our set-up for electronic giving and marking “Flood Relief.”

The Board for Christian Service also is taking note of the needs of Holy Scripture.
Blessings in Christ, John
