February 9 (Exodus 27-29 / Psalm 28 / Mark Intro & 1): Why bother? Why bother including so many details of the tabernacle? Why bother having so many psalms that all start to sound the same? Why bother telling the story of Jesus’ life four different times? Those are completely understandable questions to ask, but they’re also the wrong questions. Instead, try asking, “What is God saying about himself in this section of Scripture? What can I learn about God and about his love for me?” Sometimes those questions are easier to answer than others. I’ll admit that it is easy to do some skimming these last couple of days in Exodus. But even these Old Testament sections of Scripture reveal something about our God. He is a God of order, a God who tells his people how they are to approach him. We aren’t called to build a tabernacle today, but God still desires that we come before him. He still loves to hear our cries for mercy—and he still promises that he will answer.
